Shark Valley Ride Part Two
January 6, 2007
This is the second Shark Valley bicycle ride to be photo documented on this website. This narration will not be as detailed as the first ride, so if you may want to VIEW THE FIRST RIDE now.
OK! Now on with the pictures. And while I am talking about the pictures, yes I took them all. They are OK. Not "National Geographic" good or anything, but OK. I would say "all rights reserved" and "do not steal them" but who the hell am I kidding? There is no way to tell if anyone saves anything to their hard drive. And this IS the internet. Everything is free. And I stole stuff from other sites, like this background for example. Stolen! I did not create it. But the site I stole it from probably stole it from another site and so on.
So if you like any of my pictures - cool! Go on and steal them. Just do not hot link to here. Save them on your computer, then upload them to your web server. A link to this site would be nice.
NOTICE! THE FOLLOWING IMAGES ARE VERY LARGE! THEY ARE PRESENTED TO YOU IN 7 MEGA PIXEL GLORY AND SPLENDOR! MOST OF THE IMAGES ARE AROUND 3 MEGS. IF YOU HAVE DIALUP, IT WILL TAKE A WHILE TO DOWNLOAD THEM.
The thumbnails are links to the full size photos. Click the thumbs if you want to see them in full size.
Today was a typical South Florida "winter" day. Notice the mostly clear blue sky and lush green landscape. Nope, ain't gonna be doing no snow shoveling here anytime soon! Yes - this picture was taken in January. Trust me on this. If this were July, I would not have gone for the ride. In the summer the Everglades is just way too hot and there are way too many bugs. Winter time is Everglades National Park season. Tired of gray sky days, where it gets dark far too early and sheets of frozen rain are all over everything? Miami has a large airport AND a sea port. Book your flight and cruise now.
Mr. friendly blue heron was doing some fishing. At least I assume he is friendly. And a him. Who knows. Maybe this bird is actually a avian cross dresser. And it could be that the bird is mean and would spear you with that beak if you got too close. So I did not get too close. I may be crazy, but I am not stupid. Plus, the park ranger was watching me.
Can't say you went to the Everglades without seeing at least one of these guys! This is an Anhinga. These birds swim underwater. The bird has its wings spread out like that to catch some rays and dry off.
Can't leave out a photo of an Egret! This bird hunts like a Heron. They wade through the shallow water looking for small fish, frogs, snails, and so on. When they find something they spear it with their beak. Unless an alligator eats the bird first. Not a very good photo you say? Well lets see YOUR egret picture taken in Everglades National Park! Ill wait.
